The first spark started in September 1979 after reading an article in Outdoor Life Magazine regarding Boykin Spaniels. It developed into a roaring fire after Outdoor Life Magazine had a Boykin on the cover of its September 1980 issue with a feature article entitled "Dove Dogs of the South." After many, many phone calls, trips to the library to read the classifieds in other newspapers, and one dead end after another, I finally talked with someone who actually owned a Boykin. (Remember, this was before the web.)
After several long conversations, I was sold.

I met "Maggie," (BSR 161-Boykin Spaniel Registry) at the Jackson,
MS. Airport and my quest to get a Boykin had ended! Soon after I got "Moon"
(BSR 482). I have been a B
oykin
person ever since. I am a Sponsor Member of the Boykin Spaniel Society, the
first and official Boykin registry. I strongly agree with the Society's Code
of Ethics and Mission Statement. I also support the Boykin Spaniel Foundation,
(BSF). The BSF's stated goal is improving the genetic health of the breed.
The BSF is a 501 (c)(3) public charity and funds health clinics and OFA reimbursements
programs. I am a member of the Mid South Boykin Spaniel Retriever Club.
